
UT MARTIN SOFTBALL ANNOUNCES 2022 SCHEDULE FEATURING 19 HOME GAMES

MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin head softball coach Brian Dunn has announced its 2022 schedule which features five tournament appearances, a loaded Ohio Valley Conference slate and 19 home games.
The Skyhawks will be challenged with a schedule which features four teams who earned berths to the NCAA Tournament last season along with three additional teams which won their regular season league championship. Flooded with a full slate of games, UT Martin will travel to seven states while competing against 14 different conferences in addition to the challenging 28-game OVC schedule.
UT Martin will open the season at the Lady Demon Classic in Natchitoches, La. from Feb. 11-12. The Skyhawks will face off against Chattanooga to open the season on Friday morning before taking on NCAA Tournament participant Baylor later that afternoon. Then the next day the squad will wrap up their tournament stay with a matchup against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the morning before playing host Northwestern State.
The following weekend will feature a trip to Statesboro, Ga. for the Gata Challenge running Feb. 18-19. UT Martin will begin the two-day tournament against Maine on Friday before playing host Georgia Southern later in the day. Saturday morning will feature a matchup against North Dakota State before another matchup against Georgia Southern to conclude the weekend.
The Skyhawks will take a brief break from the tournament schedule with a single midweek game against Southeastern Conference foe and NCAA Tournament qualifier Mississippi State on Wednesday, Feb. 23. The contest will be played at a neutral venue in Lexington, Tenn.
The squad will return to the tournament grind two days later with an appearance in the Capital City Invitational down in Jackson, Miss. on Feb. 25-26. UT Martin will play SWAC East Division champion and tournament host Jackson State to lead off the tournament before turning around to play Mississippi Valley State immediately afterwards. The following day features another matchup against Jackson State before closing out the tourney against Southern.
UT Martin makes its much-anticipated home debut at Bettye Giles Field with a doubleheader against ASUN member Bellarmine on Tuesday, March 1.
Following the team's home debut, the Skyhawks will make the short trip down I-40 to play in the Blues City Classic in Memphis for a five-game tournament running March 4-6. UT Martin opens the field against Butler on Friday afternoon before squaring off against Iowa and Indiana State on Saturday. The final day will see the Skyhawks play both IUPUI and Memphis.
The team will make their final tournament appearance at the MTSU Invitational on March 11-12. The Skyhawks open the tourney against host Middle Tennessee on Friday before playing Missouri Valley Conference regular season champion Illinois State that night. The next morning will feature a matchup against Chattanooga for the second time this season before playing NCAA Tournament qualifier Northern Iowa that evening.
Outside of the tournament schedule, the Skyhawks will also round out their non-conference slate with several mid-week matchups. UT Martin will play host to Evansville (March 9) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (March 22) while traveling to SEC foe Ole Miss (March 29).
