NO. 20 UT MARTIN RIFLE OPENS SPRING SCHEDULE ON SATURDAY AT NO. 7 MURRAY STATE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The first of five regular season spring matches for the University of Tennessee at Martin rifle squad will take place this Saturday, Jan. 15 when the Skyhawks make the short drive to Murray State.
Ranked No. 20 in the final Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Top-20 fall rankings, UT Martin will compete for the first time since Nov. 21. The Skyhawk spring opener against No. 7 Murray State will be followed by back-to-back home matchups against UAB (Jan. 22) and No. 17 North Georgia (Jan. 23). The Ohio Valley Conference Championship is set for Feb. 5 while UT Martin's NCAA Qualifier will occur on Feb. 20 (both events held in Murray, Ky.).
During the fall season, the Skyhawks were responsible for a 4,570.5 aggregate average in six matches. Their season-high score of 4,591 came on Oct. 17 at Murray State while their season-best tallies in air rifle (2,317) and smallbore (2,283) came in the span of 48 hours at the JSU Invitational in the fall finale on Nov. 20-21.
UT Martin showed balanced scoring during the fall semester. Jennifer Plocinik topped the Skyhawks in aggregate scoring in each of the final five matches, also leading the team in air rifle four times and in smallbore twice. Rachel Sprague, who guided UT Martin in aggregate points during the season opener, accounted for team-high scores in smallbore twice and in air rifle once. Alayna Walther recorded the highest score on the squad in smallbore on two separate occasions while Nick Fares generated a team-best score in air rifle once.
In smallbore, Plocinik and Sprague tied for the best scoring average over the course of the fall with each producing a 569. Walther's 567 average wasn't too far behind while Fares (555), Jesse Chamberlain (553), Kalen Royal (547), Abigail Donald (545), Victoria Petersen (529) and Rachel Mills (521) additionally represented the Skyhawks last semester.
Plocinik's 582 scoring average proved to be the team benchmark in air rifle. Sprague (576), Fares (575) and Walther (574) were each within three points of each other and were followed by Donald (564), Chamberlain (563), Royal (557), Mills (556) and Petersen (555).
