UT MARTIN BEACH VOLLEYBALL SETS PROGRAM RECORD FOR SINGLE-SEASON WINS AFTER FIRST DAY SWEEP OF EASTERN KENTUCKY TOURNAMENT

RICHMOND, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball program swept the opening day of the tournament hosted by Eastern Kentucky today and in the process set a new record for single-season victories. The Skyhawks started with a 5-0 victory over Chattanooga this morning before capping off the day with another 5-0 triumph over Eastern Kentucky.
All 10 UT Martin players went undefeated on the day as the No. 1 team of Lucy Kaufman/Hannah Phillips, No. 2 squad of Kayla Carrell/Karen Scanlon, No. 3 pair of Haeleigh Paulino/Logan Wallick, No. 4 tandem of Addison Conley/Jessica Reynolds and No. 5 duo of Baillie Kearns/Kambree Lucas filled out the Skyhawk lineup in both matches.
UT Martin dominated against a Chattanooga squad that entered the tournament with a 5-1 mark in OVC play. Conley/Reynolds posted a 21-17, 21-11 victory and was followed by a 21-12, 21-19 win by Kearns/Lucas.
The team of Carrell/Scanlon clinched the Skyhawk victory via a 21-15, 21-19 win while Kaufman/Phillips (21-17, 15-21, 15-13) and Paulino/Wallick (20-22, 21-10, 15-9) outlasted the opposition for three-set victories.
Kearns and Lucas got things rolling in the Eastern Kentucky match, breezing through for a convincing 21-5, 21-5 win. Conley and Reynolds followed with a 21-17, 21-18 margin of victory.
The UT Martin win was clinched by Carrell/Scanlon after they collected a 21-12, 21-11 triumph. Paulino and Wallick improved to 10-0 on the season following a 21-9, 21-9 victory before Kaufman/Phillips rounded out the sweep with a 21-9, 22-20 win.
The Skyhawks close out the 2021 regular season tomorrow as Day 2 of the tournament features matchups against Jacksonville State (7 a.m.) and Morehead State (11 a.m.).
