The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will look to put a cap on its impressive six-game homestand with a matchup against Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee Tech on Saturday, Feb. 6. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (12-3, 11-1 OVC) enter the game riding a 10-game winning streak which ranks tied for the third longest during the Kevin McMillan Era – joining the 2013-14 and 2015-16 teams. UT Martin is hoping to put the finishing touches on a perfect homestand in which the team will play six games in 11 days – marking the longest homestand since the 2010-11 season. The Skyhawks are also riding a 19-game conference winning streak at home with the team's last loss coming against Tennessee Tech back on Feb. 9, 2019.
UT Martin left its mark in the NCAA record book on Thursday night with its defensive effort against Jacksonville State. The Skyhawks held the Gamecocks to zero points in the third quarter – holding JSU to 0-for-15 from the field during the period. The game continued a trend in which the Skyhawks have held their opponents below 40 percent from the field in nine of the last 10 contests.
While the Skyhawks leading scorer Chelsey Perry (25.7 ppg) continues to remain questionable, her teammates have carried the torch in the last two outings. For the second straight game the Skyhawks placed four players in double figures with the trio of Dasia Young, Kyannah Grant and Damiah Griffin each scoring 11 points while Maddie Waldrop rounded out the quartet with 10 points. Young highlighted the group with her first career double-double, tallying 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Tennessee Tech (9-6, 7-5 OVC) has won five of its last seven contests but dropped its most recent outing to Southeast Missouri on Thursday night 59-55 on the road. The Golden Eagles boast a well-rounded offense with three players in double figures behind Kesha Brady (13.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg), Mackenzie Coleman (11.9 ppg, 6.0 rpg) and Anna Jones (11.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg).
Saturday's contest marks the 74th meeting between the two programs in a series which dates back to 1969. Tennessee Tech holds a sizeable advantage in the series with a 48-25 margin overall while UT Martin has controlled the matchup as of late, winning 14 of the last 16 meetings – including the season series in 2019-20.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley will be on the call locally on WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links - in addition to a link for live stats - can be found at the top of the webpage.
