MARTIN, Tenn. – A big home weekend is in store for the University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian program as the Skyhawks host No. 4 ranked Texas A&M and Lynchburg at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex. The three teams will face each other over the course of two days with both meets involving Lynchburg serving as Jumping Seat-only events.
UT Martin takes on the Aggies on Friday, Nov. 12 starting at 10 a.m. as the "Code Orange" fan rush is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. Texas A&M and the Hornets will then conduct the flat portion of their meet before starting fences at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13. The Skyhawks and Lynchburg will square off afterwards with fences coming first and the flat event to follow.
On Friday, UT Martin will look for its second victory over a top-four opponent this season as the Skyhawks also knocked off then-No. 3 SMU by a 9-6 margin on Oct. 2. This weekend will be UT Martin's first opportunity to compete in front of its home crowd since the season-opener against No. 8 Baylor on Sept. 24.
The Skyhawks are 2-2 overall and coming off back-to-back victories, following their win over SMU with a 10-8 triumph in their last meet at South Dakota State on Oct. 15. UT Martin has produced 31 individual victories and nine MOP's so far during the fall campaign, which wraps up following this weekend's action.
A trio of Skyhawks have earned 10 combined points in fences this season, led by Kelby Kane's four points and two MOP's. Kane's 81.5-point scoring average in the event also ranks as a team-high while Haley Kane (two) and Elizabeth Becker have also chipped in points.
UT Martin has found immense success in flat, garnering 11 overall wins and three MOP's. Kelby Kane, Tyler Anderson and Julia Gilman are all tied for the team lead with three victories apiece while Gilman (two MOP's) and Kelby Kane (83.1 scoring average) top the Skyhawks in their respective categories. Additionally pitching in victories have been Haley Kane and Mahalia Alascio.
In horsemanship, Keely Seiter's two wins pace a trio of UT Martin representatives who have scored victories in the event. Kate Davis has registered the team's lone MOP and is also responsible for a team-best 73.5 scoring average while Katelyn Schultz has contributed one win.
Davis has made waves in reining so far in 2021-22, notching three MOP's in four opportunities to go along with a team-high 71.1 scoring average. Brooke Bradley (two) and Logan Putvinski have also tacked on head-to-head victories in the event.
