1/20/2021 3:22:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Following an impressive brief homestand the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team packed its bags once again for an Ohio Valley Conference road swing through the Blue Grass State, beginning with a matchup at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, Jan. 21. Tipoff from McBrayer Arena is scheduled for 4 p.m. CST and will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (5-3, 4-1 OVC) enter Thursday's contest riding a season-long three-game winning streak. UT Martin ranks 21st in the Mid-Major Top 25 while sitting 79th in the NCAA Net Rankings.
UT Martin returns to life on the road after a successful weekend at home where the team posted a pair of victories over Austin Peay (69-53) and Murray State (78-71). The Skyhawks were efficient from the field in both contests by shooting 47.5 percent for the week while holding its opponent under 40 percent in each game.
Senior forward Chelsey Perry picked up a trio of weekly honors for her standout play including Madness National Mid-Major Player of the Week, OVC Player of the Week and TSWA Player of the Week after averaging 34 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks per game. The nation's leading scorer (29.3 ppg) also moved into fourth on the program's all-time scoring list while breaking the school 31-year old blocked shot mark with 207.
Perry has now scored at least 20 points in all eight games this season - scoring no fewer than 23 points against Jacksonville State. She is one of just two players nationally to have scored 20 points or more in each of her team's contests.
Eastern Kentucky (6-6, 5-3 OVC) split its two matchups last weekend, picking up a 79-63 win at SIUE before falling at Eastern Illinois (73-68) on Saturday. The Colonels are led offensively by Jayla Johnson with 11.3 points per game while the pair of Alice Recanati (9.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg) and Kendall Winlger (9.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg) average just outside double figures.
Thursday's matchup marks the 57th meeting between the two programs with Eastern Kentucky holding a 32-24 advantage in a series which dates back to 1974. UT Martin has dominated the series in recent history by winning 15 of the last 16 contests.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley will be on the call locally on WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links - in addition to a link for live stats - can be found at the top of the webpage.
