WACO, Texas – Hannah McDonald, a junior standout at the University of Tennessee at Martin, has been spotlighted by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association as its Rider of the Month for February in reining.
McDonald becomes just the fourth Skyhawk to ever notch a NCEA National Rider of the Month accolade, joining current teammates Kenzie Mezrah (Flat, January 2019), Noel Meadows (Reining, September 2018) and Abbie Hopkins (Fences, October 2017). The NCEA started recognizing a National Rider of the Month in each of its four events in 2013.
A Ridgefield, Wash. native, McDonald went a perfect 5-0 with one MOP last month. She defeated competitors from three ranked squads and collected a season-best score of 72 points against Delaware State on Feb. 29.
McDonald began the month with 68 points against then-No. 6 Fresno State on Feb. 7. The following day, she accrued a team-high 71.5 points against UC Davis. She then accumulated 68 points against then-No. 6 SMU on Feb. 20.
In her final appearances of the month, McDonald secured a team-best 71 points at No. 6 Georgia and her aforementioned season-high score against Delaware State which resulted in her first MOP of the season.
On the season, McDonald owns team-highs of six head-to-head victories and a 68.8 scoring average. The reigning all-conference performer is responsible for 16 wins and one MOP in her Skyhawk career.
UT Martin returns to action on March 26-27 when it travels to Harrington, Del. for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship.
