
NO. 10 UT MARTIN EQUESTRIAN COMES UP JUST SHORT AGAINST UC DAVIS, 9-7

FRESNO, Calif. – The University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team excelled in the Hunt Seat discipline today against UC Davis but the Skyhawks were edged out by a 9-7 score at the hands of UC Davis.
The No. 10 ranked Skyhawks came into the day trailing by a slim 5-3 margin after the flat and horsemanship events were completed on Friday. The Aggies and UT Martin split the remaining eight points today in fences and reining.
In flat, the Skyhawks posted three wins for just the second time this season – also taking three victories in flat against South Dakota State on Oct. 10. Kelby Kane racked up her second consecutive MOP accolade with a 79-point performance. Quinn Reed chalked up a victory with 78 points while Abbie Hopkins earned her team-best fifth win with a score of 66. Randi LaChance (69 points) also represented UT Martin in flat.
UC Davis picked up all four points in horsemanship. Bailey Newlin accumulated a team-high 71.5 points but was outdueled by one point by her competitor. Tess Baumann (68.5 points), Devon Woods (68) and Lucy Eier (no score) additionally made up the Skyhawk scoring lineup.
Grace Rogers earned a career-best score of 84 points in fences today, notching a head-to-head victory in the process for UT Martin. Kane chipped in another triumph as a result of a 74-point ride while Brooke Pfeiffer ran into some tough luck with a loss despite a season-high score of 75 points. Hopkins' 67 completed the Skyhawk scoring in fences.
Baumann came away with her team-high fourth win and second MOP of the season in reining, claiming top honors after a score of 71.5 points. Hannah McDonald wrapped up her second win in as many days with 71.5 points while Noel Meadows (66.5) and Brooke Bradley (65) were both narrowly defeated this morning.
UT Martin's final two home competitions of the season come later this month. The homestand begins with a Senior Day matchup against current No. 8 SMU on Thursday, Feb. 20 before the home finale against SUNY New Paltz on Friday, Feb. 21.
