
UT MARTIN AND SOUTHERN ILLINOIS SET FOR REGIONAL CLASH ON TUESDAY NIGHT

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will finally open the home portion of its schedule with a non-conference matchup against regional foe and Missouri Valley Conference member Southern Illinois on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+. Only season ticket holders and team complimentary ticket holders will be allowed entry for both contests.
UT Martin returns to the friendly confines of the Elam Center after a 290-day hiatus. The Skyhawks have made Pat Summitt Court difficult for opponents, boasting a 116-25 (.822) record at home since 2009.
The Skyhawks (1-1) return home after picking up their first win of the season with a road victory at Samford the last time out. UT Martin pulled off a second-half comeback behind an impressive third quarter run. The Skyhawks shot 56.4 percent from the floor, including a 43.8 percent clip from beyond the arc while dishing out 21 assists.
UT Martin is led by All-American forward Chelsey Perry who ranks third in the nation and first in the OVC with 28.5 point per game after her 11th career double-double with 31 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Samford. Seygan Robins has settled in nicely to her Skyhawk uniform, averaging 11.0 ppg while her 5.0 assist per game led the OVC after setting career-highs with 16 points and six assists against the Bulldogs.
Southern Illinois (2-1) continues its gauntlet of matchups against OVC opponents with its third member school in four days. The Salukis hosted Austin Peay (72-54) and Southeast Missouri (67-51) on back-to-back days over the weekend and pulled away in the fourth quarter in both contests to record victories.
The Salukis feature a balanced scoring attack which boasts four players in double figures led by Makenzie Silvey who averages 13.3 points per game and leads the team with 3.7 assists per game. Abby Brockmeyer (12.7 ppg, 9.7 rpg), Gabby Walker (12.0 ppg) and Rachel Pudowski (10.0 ppg) round out the scoring attack.
Tuesday's contest marks the 22nd meeting between the two regional programs dating back to 1973. UT Martin holds a narrow 11-10 advantage in the series while winning six of the last nine matchups. In last season's contest, Southern Illinois pulled away late in the fourth quarter to post a 70-59 win in Carbondale.
