
UT MARTIN RIFLE SHATTERS NEW SEASON-HIGH IN AGGREGATE POINTS AT MURRAY STATE

MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle squad combined for a season-best score as it paid a visit to Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State on Sunday.
Tallying a season-high 2,288 points in smallbore, the Skyhawks tacked on 2,304 more points in air rifle for an aggregate score of 4,592. That topped UT Martin's previous season-best score of 4,577, which was also set against Murray State in the 2020-21 season opener held on Oct. 3. In the head-to-head matchup, the Racers compiled 4,669 points to take the victory.
Rachel Sprague earned team-high scores in aggregate (1,156), smallbore (573) and air rifle (583). Following closely behind was Jennifer Plocinik's 1,155 combined score (572 smallbore, co-team-best 583 air rifle) while Nick Fares also competed in both disciplines (1,142 aggregate, season-high 565 in smallbore, 577 air rifle).
In smallbore, Kalen Royal eclipsed her previous career-best score by a wide margin – tying Sprague with a team-high 573. That was 15 points better than her previous career-best tally of 558 in the aforementioned season-opener at Murray State. Jacob Osborne also performed well in smallbore as his season-high 570 was only one point shy of his career-best score.
In addition to the trio of Sprague, Plocinik and Fares, the Skyhawk team score contributors in air rifle consisted of Abigail Donald (561) and Amanda Mayo (549 in her season debut).
Although they were not members of the scoring lineup, Celia Gelpey (541 smallbore in her season debut) and Rachel Mills (season-high 548 in air rifle) also represented UT Martin.
The Skyhawks will take the next two weeks off from official competition before resuming their fall slate with matches in back-to-back days at OVC rival Morehead State on Nov. 7-8.
