
SATURDAY HOME VICTORY OVER UAB HIGHLIGHTS BUSY STRETCH FOR UT MARTIN RIFLE SQUAD

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle squad completed an active weekend with three matches in two days, concluding the regular season schedule with a tune-up for the Ohio Valley Conference Championships.
The Skyhawks started their week with a 4,573-4,553 triumph over UAB at home on Saturday. UT Martin then had a split-squad performance on Sunday, narrowly falling (4,604-4,587) to OVC foe Jacksonville State at home while also serving as one of eight teams in the Withrow Invitational in Murray, Ky.
In the victory over UAB, the Skyhawks tallied 2,327 points in air rifle and 2,246 points in smallbore, setting the tone for a successful weekend.
Jennifer Plocinik garnered a team-high score of 585 in air rifle and was followed by a career-best 583 out of Jacob Osborne, 581 from Rachel Sprague, 578 out of Kaitlin Korinek and 533 from Celia Gelpey.
Korinek led UT Martin in smallbore with a score of 578. She was followed by Osborne and Sprague's identical 559's while Plocinik (550) and Gelpey (524) also chipped in to the team's second victory of the season.
The Skyhawks not only improved their aggregate score but accumulated 11 more points in smallbore against Jacksonville State. UT Martin compiled 2,257 points in smallbore and 2,321 points in the air rifle portion of the match.
For the second straight day and third time this season, Plocinik paced the Skyhawks in air rifle scoring (585). Sprague came away with 581 points while Nick Fares established a career-high with a score of 579. Korinek and Osborne followed with scores of 576 and 572, respectively.
Korinek guided UT Martin in smallbore for the fourth time this season against Jacksonville State, securing 578 points. Plocinik (563), Osborne (560), Sprague (556) and Fares (554) also contributed to the Skyhawks' vast improvement in smallbore scoring.
UT Martin competed alongside Kentucky, Memphis, host Murray State, North Carolina State, Jacksonville State, UAB and North Georgia at the annual Withrow Invitational on Sunday. The Skyhawks came away with a 4,387 overall score, collecting 2,216 points in air rifle and 2,171 points in smallbore.
In air rifle, Gelpey earned 561 points and was closely followed by Kalen Royal's 560. Tristan Grisham (550), Amanda Mayo (545) and Rachel Mills (539) completed the team scoring for UT Martin.
Gelpey topped the Skyhawks with a 552 smallbore score while Mills (541), Mayo (540), Grisham (538) and Royal (537) were all integral parts of UT Martin's lineup.
The Skyhawks will now turn their attention to the OVC Championships, which will be held on the UT Martin campus on Feb. 8-9.
