9/27/2019 5:11:00 PM | Soccer
MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team would strike first in its opening Ohio Valley Conference road matchup against Murray State before surrendering five unanswered goals to drop the decision 5-1.
The Skyhawks (3-4-4, 1-1-1 OVC) found their lone goal of the contest just over five minutes into the match as Alice Adams beat the keeper for an early strike. The lead would be short-lived however as the Racers stormed back to find the game's equalizer in the 15th minute and eventual go-ahead goal in the 35th. As a whole, Murray State would tally five goals on the afternoon coming from the quartet of Rebecca Kubin, Elizabeth Tilton, Emma Heise and Miyah Watford.
UT Martin would be outshot by a final tally of 20-7 while Adams's goal in the 6th minute served as the team's lone shot on goal of the contest. In goal, junior Erica Myers tallied seven saves on the afternoon but would allow five goals in her first conference loss since 2017.
The Racers (5-5, 2-0 OVC) remain unbeaten this season while averaging five goals per game in league play. Watford led the team with six shots on the afternoon while Tilton registered a multi-goal outing.
UT Martin will return to action with a road matchup at Austin Peay on Sunday, Sept. 29. Action is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
