MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak in Ohio Valley Conference play to 12 games behind a goal in the first minute to push past Belmont 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Skyhawks (3-3-4, 1-0-1 OVC) picked up their first OVC win of the season behind an early strike on offense and solid defensive play on the back end. UT Martin would strike quickly in the contest as Hendrikje Baurmann rebounded a save attempt off her own header before beating the keeper just 59 seconds into the game for her second goal of the season.
After the early goal, UT Martin relied heavily on the team's defensive effort to record its second shutout of the weekend. The Skyhawks would outshoot the Bruins 16-11 in the game while allowing just five shots on goal. Junior Erica Myers posted another impressive performance, recording her 11th career shutout and second of the weekend by tallying five saves in 90 minutes of play. With the big game, Myers moved into sole possession of second place on the program's career shutout list.
As a whole, four different Skyhawks tallied three shot attempts on the afternoon from Nicole Collins, Alice Adams, Blare Gerido and Baurmann. The Skyhawks would tally four shots on goals with the deciding score coming from Baurmann.

"Today was a big win for us after we started four freshmen today," UT Martin head coach Phil McNamara said. "Missing our top goal scorer for the year this weekend surely showed up on Friday night. Even with that, we have got to be extremely pleased with our play, mainly on Friday night and then with some extra grit, determination and game management today against a hardcore Belmont team. Having two clean sheets on the weekend is very positive and four points is a great start for this young team. Hopefully they can build upon on that momentum and confidence moving into next weekend."
Belmont (1-6-2, 0-2-0 OVC) was led offensively by Julie Garst who tallied five shots, including three on goal. Meanwhile in goal, Lily Herman tallied three saves while allowing the one goal.
UT Martin will return to action with a rematch of last season's OVC Soccer Championship with a road matchup at Murray State on Friday, Sept. 27.
