DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer program wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule on Sunday night with a road matchup at Wright State, pushing the hosts to the brink before finishing the game in a 2-2 tie.
The Skyhawks (2-3-3) outshot the Raiders 20-15 while placing seven total shots on goal. The game's scoring began in the 59th minute at redshirt-sophomore Jill Hildreth tallied her fifth goal of the season to take an advantage before Wright State responded with goals in the 70th and 88th minutes to take its first lead. The lead would be short-lived however, as junior Jacalyn Schubring recorded her first career goal in the 89th minute to force overtime.
UT Martin's Alice Adams would tally a team-high seven shots while Bella Roberts ranked second with three attempts. Hildreth and Schubring scored the two goals for the Skyhawks while Adams and Nicole Collins recorded their respective second assists of the season.
Junior Erica Myers held her own in goal, allowing just two goals. Myers would also tally six saves in 110 minutes of play, including a pair of potential game-saving saves at the end of the first overtime period.
Wright State (5-1-2) The Raiders found its first goal off a penalty kick which Michelle Rings punched in while the fourth goal of the season by Brittney Petrosky gave the team its lone lead of the contest.
UT Martin will open its Ohio Valley Conference title defense with a pair of home league matchups this week. The Skyhawks will host Eastern Illinois on Friday, Sept. 20 before taking on Belmont on Sunday, Sept. 22.
