
UTM BASEBALL HEADS TO NEARBY MURRAY STATE FOR PIVOTAL OVC WEEKEND

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team heads to Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State for a pivotal series this weekend. The series has been altered from its original schedule due to the threat of thunderstorms. The teams will now play a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 10. The date and time of the series finale will be determined on the morning of Saturday, May 11.
UT Martin (20-27, 8-16 OVC) notched its sixth 20-win campaign of the Division-I era after defeating Jacksonville State 4-2 this past weekend.
Leading the Skyhawks at the plate this year is the dynamic duo of Jordan Stoner and Casey Harford. Stoner paces the club in batting average (.335), doubles (14, fifth-best in the league), total hits (62, eighth-most in the conference), times hit by pitch (14, third-highest in the OVC) and on base percentage (.408). He has exhibited his speediness on the base paths this year as well as he has swiped six bases this year. Harford boasts a .333 batting clip to go along with 14 total extra-base hits and four stolen bases. Blake Davis has toted a heavy bat this season as he leads all UT Martin batters in long balls with nine belted on the year to go along with a team-best 37 RBIs on the year.
Righty Austen Bullington (3-7, 4.59 ERA) looks to toe the rubber in the Friday night matchup. He has tossed 64.2 innings this year (ninth-most in the OVC) across a dozen starts and one relief appearance while having sat down 41 via strikeout along the way. Southpaw Sam Folks (3-6, 5.35 ERA) is set to take the mound on Saturday. His 70.2 innings pitched this year rank sixth in the league while ringing up 44 batters in that span. Right-handed pitcher Winston Cannon (5-8, 5.40 ERA) will get the starting nod in the Sunday matinee. He has logged 61.2 innings on the mound and fanned 65 batters (10th-most in the conference) in that span. Closer Nick Wohlbold (0-1, 1.80 ERA) has been dominant as his 11 saves pace the OVC and comes into the week ranked 10th in the nation in the category.
Murray State (20-25, 13-11 OVC) is led by the play of Jordan Cozart. He leads all Racers in batting average (.337) and slugging percentage (.574). Cozart has tallied 10 doubles, a three-bagger and four homers and plated 22 runs this season. The trio of Tyler Duke, Brock Anderson and Ryan Perkins have also been key contributors. Duke sports a .299 batting clip to go along with 19 extra base hits and 35 RBIs. Anderson is swinging to the tune of a .285 average and has hammered a squad-best 10 long balls and driven in a team-high 35 runs. Perkins touts a .277 batting clip with 11 two-baggers, a triple and nine homers to go along with 34 RBIs this season.
Right-handed pitcher Gray Dorsey (1-3, 5.60 ERA) is scheduled to get the starting nod on Friday night. He has sat down 21 batters across 27.1 innings pitched this season. Righty Trevor McMurray (2-5, 5.72 ERA) looks to toe the rubber in the Saturday game. He has tossed 50.1 innings on the year and fanned 45 along the way. Lefty Shane Burns (3-2, 3.83 ERA) is set to get the start in the Sunday matinee. He has recorded a team-best 50 strikeouts in a squad-high 54 innings pitched this season while holding batters to a miniscule .223 batting average for first-year head coach Dan Skirka.
