MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball squad is set to take on American Athletic Conference rival Memphis in a neutral-site matchup at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn. The midweek showcase will take place on Tuesday, May 14 at 6 p.m.
UT Martin (21-29) is led at the plate by the dynamic duo of Jordan Stoner and Casey Harford. Stoner is one of three Skyhawks who have started in all 50 contests this year. He leads the team in batting average (.335) and doubles (15) and has belted three home runs this season to go along with 25 RBIs. He sports an .864 OPS and has swiped six bases on the season. Harford sports a .322 batting clip and has tallied 10 two-baggers, one triple and four long balls while leading the squad in RBIs with 38 on the year. The pairing of Blake Davis and Creighton Eldridge have hammered nine homers each to pace the team in long balls.
Freshman righty Seth Petry (4-1, 5.32 ERA) is slated to toe the rubber in the Tuesday night battle. The Murfreesboro, Tenn. native has logged 31.1 innings pitched this season and has fanned 21 batters in that span. Petry has held opposing bats to a paltry .239 batting average in his time on the mound and has allowed just six extra-base hits this year. Closer Nick Wohlbold (0-2, 3.00 ERA) has racked up 12 saves this season in his 33 innings pitched and has whiffed 41 batters along the way. Zach Denney (2-1, 2.59 ERA) has also been a key contributor in crunch time for the Skyhawks as he has recorded 30 strikeouts in 24.1 innings this year.
Memphis (26-24) is led at the dish by the explosive play of Hunter Goodman. He leads the Tigers in nearly all offensive categories including total hits (74), doubles (15), triples (two), home runs (11) and RBIs (62). He sports a whopping .979 OPS while he has accumulated 126 total bases this season. He has also found success on the base paths as he has stolen 11 bags on 12 attempts. The trio of Payton Marshall, Colton Neel and Kyle Ouellette have also been key bats for Memphis as all three have belted a trio of home runs. Marshall sports a .315 batting average and 26 RBIs, Neel boasts a .295 batting clip, 14 doubles and 29 RBIs and Ouellette has a batting average of .295 and 23 RBIs on the season.
Right-handed pitcher Landon Kelly (2-3, 6.08 ERA) is expected to get the starting nod for the Tigers. He has started in three contests and made 18 appearances. Kelly has tossed 40 innings while having struck out 37 opposing batters along the way. Neel (0-1, 0.52 ERA) has shown he is as good, if not better, on the mound than at the plate this season. He has accumulated nine saves in 17.1 innings pitched and fanned 24 in that span. Neel has held the opposition to a measly .175 batting average for 15th-year head coach Daron Schoenrock.
