CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Lindsey Geurin and Gintare Mackeviciute collected a win in the second match today for the University of Tennessee at Martin but the Skyhawks could not break through in 5-0 and 4-1 setbacks in a beach volleyball double dual at Austin Peay.

In the opening match of the day, UT Martin came close to victories at No. 2 and No. 5 but the third set ultimately went the way of the host Governors in both instances. At No. 2, Karen Scanlon and Kenzie Hinshaw emerged victorious in the opening stanza before falling 15-21, 23-21, 15-13. The Skyhawk duo of Geurin and Mackeviciute also won its first set at No. 5 but fell victim to an Austin Peay comeback (20-22, 23-21, 15-10).

At No. 1, the UT Martin team of Brooke Gyori and Hannah Phillips put up a fight but fell in a 21-17, 21-18 decision. Jessica Reynolds and Addison Conley represented the Skyhawks at No. 4 but were defeated 21-15, 21-11. Slotted at No. 3 for UT Martin was Justine Walker and Megan Fair, who fell by identical 21-10, 21-10 scores.

The second match of the day featured Geurin and Mackeviciute's win at No. 5, as the Skyhawks claimed a dominating 21-18, 21-7 victory.

UT Martin nearly came away with a win at No. 4 but the team of Reynolds/Conley fell by a 19-21, 21-19, 15-10 margin. At No. 1, Gyori and Phillips battled but came up just short (21-17, 21-14). The No. 3 matchup featuring Walker and Fair also was tight throughout but Austin Peay tallied a 21-13, 21-16 margin. Scanlon and Hinshaw once again represented the Skyhawks at No. 2 but were edged out 21-14, 21-11.

The final two road matches of the season are next up for UT Martin, who travel to Florence, Ala. for a double dual this Friday, March 5. The matches are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
