ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball team dialed up its third win of the season this afternoon at the 2019 Battle on the Bay tournament. The Skyhawks recorded an impressive 4-1 win over host Eckerd College and were also defeated by a 4-1 margin over Tampa.

UT Martin improved to 3-7 on the season thanks to a season-best four individual victories against Eckerd College. The No. 3 squad of Megan Fair and Justine Walker accounted for a 21-15, 21-11 win while Kenzie Hinshaw and Karen Scanlon teamed up for a 21-17, 21-11 victory at No. 2.

Addison Conley and Logan Wallick managed a gritty 17-21, 21-19, 15-13 triumph at No. 5 while the Skyhawks' No. 1 team of Brooke Gyori and Hannah Phillips were ahead 24-22, 13-7 before the Tritons were forced to forfeit. UT Martin nearly completed the sweep but Lindsey Geurin and Jessica Reynolds were narrowly edged out at No. 4 (21-19, 21-17).

In the early morning matchup against Tampa, the Skyhawks were responsible for a 21-19, 12-21, 15-11 victory by Walker and Fair at No. 3. Gyori and Phillips mounted a valiant comeback but lost a heartbreaker at No. 1 (17-21, 21-17, 15-10).

At No. 4, Geurin and Reynolds were in a battle but were defeated by a 21-19, 21-13 margin. Hinshaw/Scanlon (lost 21-15, 21-11) and Conley/Wallick (lost 21-12, 21-12) additionally represented UT Martin.

The Skyhawks round out the tournament on Saturday, March 9 when they take on Arizona State at 10 a.m. CST and Florida Gulf Coast at 3 p.m. CST.
