SAINT LEO, Fla. – The University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball team continued their trip through the state of Florida today, falling in both ends of a double dual against Saint Leo (3-2, 5-0).

The Skyhawks gutted out a pair of three-set wins in the opening match of the day, led by a gritty come-from-behind win by the No. 1 team of Brooke Gyori and Hannah Phillips at No. 1 (15-21, 21-17, 15-10). UT Martin also collected an impressive win at No. 4 as Jessica Reynolds and Lindsey Geurin posted a 21-16, 16-21, 15-12 triumph.

However, that would be the only two wins during the first match as the host Lions came away with three wins. Addison Conley and Logan Wallick fell by a 21-13, 21-18 margin at No. 5 while Megan Fair and Justine Walker were edged 21-13, 21-17 at No. 2. Saint Leo would clinch the win with a 21-12, 21-14 win at No. 3 against the Skyhawk duo of Kenzie Hinshaw and Karen Scanlon.

UT Martin had several close outcomes in the second match of the day but couldn't overcome Saint Leo's momentum. The No. 5 duo of Conley and Wallick (lost 17-21, 21-15, 15-12) and the No. 4 team of Reynolds/Geurin (lost 21-19, 18-21, 15-13) came closest to a win.

The No. 1 Skyhawk team of Gyori/Phillips also kept things tight before ultimately falling 22-20, 21-19. Fair/Walker (lost 21-14, 21-18) and Scanlon/Hinshaw (21-11, 21-17) also provided solid efforts at No. 3 and No. 2, respectively.

UT Martin puts the finishing touches on its nine-day visit to the Sunshine State with the 2019 Battle on the Bay tournament hosted by Eckerd College. The Skyhawks will battle Tampa and Eckerd College on Friday, March 8 before taking on Arizona State and Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, March 9.
