
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TO OPEN OVC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUEST AGAINST MURRAY STATE ON THURSDAY

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will enters its 10th consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Championship seeded third and will matchup against sixth-seeded Murray State in the quarterfinals of the single-elimination tournament on Thursday, March 7. Tipoff from the Ford Center is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m.
The Skyhawks (21-8) finished the regular season in a tie for second place with a league mark of 13-5 and earned the third seed through tie-breaker scenarios. This marks UT Martin's 10th consecutive tournament appearance along with 10th straight appearance as a top-four seed under head coach Kevin McMillan.
UT Martin boasts a legitimate title threat based off previous experience in the OVC Basketball Championship, posting a 15-6 mark in the field dating back to the 2009-10 season – including championships in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Additionally, the Skyhawks are 4-1 in games played in the Ford Center all-time.
The Skyhawks boast three players which earned postseason honors by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. Senior guard Emanye Robertson (12.1 ppg, 4.8 asp, 2.8 spg) highlighted the group with All-OVC first team honors while becoming just the second player in program history to be named OVC Defensive Player of the Year. Joining Robertson with accolades was sophomore Chelsey Perry (11.7 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.2 bpg) who earned All-OVC second team honors while freshman Brittni Moore (8.4 ppg, 3.0 rpg) was tabbed to the OVC All-Newcomer team.
Murray State (13-16) returns to the OVC Basketball Championship looking to build upon the team's hot play as of late. The Racers enter the tournament field having won six of their last eight games behind the dominating play of All-OVC tandem Evelyn Adebayo and Macey Turley. Adebayo picked up All-OVC first team and All-Newcomer honors after averaging 18.4 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in her debut season. Meanwhile, Turley earned All-OVC second team and All-Newcomer recognitions after averaging 13.1 points and 4.4 assists per game in her freshman campaign.
Thursday's matchup marks the 88th meeting between the two programs in series history with UT Martin holding a 52-35 advantage. The two team's split the season series with UT Martin winning at home 75-67 while Murray State took care of business in the CFSB Center 76-73. Meanwhile, the Racers have defeated the Skyhawks in two of three OVC Tournament matchups – including a 78-75 meeting on March 2, 2016.
