MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball squad is set to begin a four-game homestand beginning with regional rival Union on Wednesday, March 27. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
UT Martin (8-15) is led by the electric bat of Jordan Stoner who is coming off a weekend in which he produced a line of .538/.647/.846 against Alabama A&M and Eastern Kentucky. He leads all Skyhawks in 13 categories including batting average (.352), on base percentage (.423), slugging percentage (.477), homers (two), RBIs (15) and times hit by pitch (eight). He has also been given the green light while on the base paths and been fairly successful as he has swiped five bases on the year on seven attempts. Casey Harford has also been a key contributor to the UT Martin lineup as he boasts a .346 batting average, four doubles and 11 RBIs.
The starter for the midweek matchup has yet to be determined but Seth Petry (0-0, 6.00 ERA) started against Alabama A&M last week and found great success. The righty tossed five innings and allowed just two hits, issued one walk and saw one earned run cross the plate in his time on the bump while also sitting down four via the punchout. Right-handed pitcher Nick Wohlbold (0-0, 1.20 ERA) has been a main cog in the UT Martin bullpen as he has racked up four saves on the season. He has logged 15 innings of relief while allowing just two earned runs all season and has fanned 19 opposing batters in his time on the bump.
Union (9-18) is led by the duo of Nolen Milton and Caleb DeMarigny. Milton sports a .383 batting average while having notched 14 extra-base hits including nine doubles, one triple and four long balls to go along with 21 RBIs. His 1.063 OPS paces all Bulldogs while he has also stole three bases on the season. DeMarigny is swinging to the tune of a .341 batting clip while having compiled nine two-baggers and one triple to go along with 15 RBIs. A total of six Union batsmen have tallied double-digit RBI numbers while five have multiple stolen bases on the year.
Like the Skyhawks, the Bulldogs have yet to pick a starter for the contest but Spencer Woods (3-1, 3.64 ERA) drew the starting nod against Harding University in their midweek battle last time out. The left-handed pitcher has notched 29.2 innings on the hill while he has rung up 15 batters in that span. He has not missed the zone much as he has allowed just five walks so far on the season under fifth-year head coach Lee Driggers.
