TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball program scored another win today at the tournament hosted by the University of Tampa, splitting a pair of matches against Coastal Carolina (lost 5-0) and Jacksonville (won 3-2).

The Skyhawks began the day with an early morning match against Coastal Carolina, battling but falling to a Chanticleers squad that improved to 5-2 on the season.

UT Martin's No. 5 duo of Addison Conley and Logan Wallick came the closest to a win for the Skyhawks as the matchup came down to a tiebreaking third set before Coastal Carolina eked out a 21-13, 18-21, 15-9 win. At No. 3, Kenzie Hinshaw and Karen Scanlon put up a fight but fell by a 25-23, 25-11 margin.

Lindsey Geurin and Jessica Reynolds scrapped their way through the No. 4 matchup but was ultimately defeated by a 21-13, 21-15 margin. Justine Walker/Megan Fair (lost 21-13, 21-10) and Brooke Gyori/Hannah Phillips (lost 21-8, 21-13) also competed for UT Martin at No. 2 and No. 1, respectively.

The Skyhawks bounced back strong with a 3-2 triumph over the Dolphins this afternoon. In that match, UT Martin claimed victories at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 to improve to 2-2 on the young season.

Hinshaw and Scanlon were bumped up to No. 2 for the match and the move paid off as the duo emerged victorious by a score of 21-16, 21-16. The Skyhawks also earned wins via Walker and Fair at No. 3 (21-18, 21-11) as well as Conley and Wallick at No. 5 (24-22, 21-19).

Meanwhile, UT Martin nearly claimed a win at No. 4 but Geurin and Reynolds barely fell 19-21, 21-13, 15-8. Gyori and Phillips were also involved in a tight decision at No. 1 but narrowly fell 21-18, 21-16.

The Skyhawks will take a few days off before returning to the sand on Tuesday, March 5. UT Martin travels to Lakeland, Fla. for a double dual matchup against Florida Southern College at 9 and 11 a.m. CST.
