MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball squad heads to Southwestern Athletic Conference foe Alabama A&M for a midweek battle with the Bulldogs. First pitch on Tuesday, March 12 is scheduled for 3 p.m.
UT Martin (6-9) is coming off of an impressive weekend in which the Skyhawks claimed a pair of shutouts to match the program's Division-I mark of four in a season. Sam Folks also notched the school's first nine inning complete game shutout since 2006. Last week at No. 15 Auburn, Casey Harford tallied the program's first 5-for-5 performance against a Division-I opponent since 2007.
Pacing the Skyhawks in the hitting department is Harford who swings to the tune of a .375 batting average, has pelted two doubles and racked up seven RBIs. Jordan Stoner (.345 batting average, four doubles, one home run and nine RBIs) has also swung a big bat. Rounding out the team in long balls hit is Blake Daniels, Blake Davis and Robert Worley as the trio have all pounded one dinger each.
Right-handed pitcher Austen Bullington (0-2, 5.40 ERA) will draw the starting nod against the Bulldogs. The Newburgh, Ind. native has made four starts on the season and logged over 18 innings while fanning 14 opposing batters along the way. Nick Wohlbold (0-0, 0.00 ERA) has earned the closer role for the team as he has racked up four saves in nine innings pitched on the season and recorded nine strikeouts in that span.
Alabama A&M is led by the play of Pierre Brewton (.320 batting average, one home run and eight RBIs) while Justin Lott (.286 batting average, two home runs and nine RBIs) has also provided a good deal of run support. The duo of Tyus O'Neal-El (.333 batting average and five RBIs) and Jonathan Smith II (.306 batting average and six RBIs) has swung the bat well so far on the season.
Khari Caver (0-1, 15.12 ERA) drew the starting nod in last week's midweek contest against fellow Ohio Valley Conference opponent Tennessee Tech and is a potential candidate to start the game for the Bulldogs. In the bullpen, Isom Ford (0-0, 0.00 ERA and three strikeouts) and Yavier Febus (0-0, 3.60 ERA and six strikeouts) have provided first-year head coach Manny Lora with valuable innings.
