
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS SET TO HOST TENNESSEE TECH IN BIG OVC SHOWDOWN ON SATURDAY

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will reach the mid-point of its three-game homestand with an Ohio Valley Conference matchup against Tennessee Tech on Saturday, Feb. 9. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Saturday's game features two of the OVC's best teams this season. With both squads boasting identical 16-6 overall marks and 8-3 records in conference play, the matchup will serve as the lone regular season meeting and break a current tie for third place in the league standings.
The Skyhawks (16-6, 8-3 OVC) enter the matchup having pushed their unbeaten record in the Elam Center to 11-0 after a 77-72 victory over Jacksonville State on Thursday evening. UT Martin would lead by as much as 18 points midway through the third quarter while forcing 29 turnovers which led to 30 transition baskets for the Skyhawks. The game would later reach a margin as narrow as three points in the final minute but UT Martin would hold on to clinch the home victory.
Senior Emanye Robertson notched her fifth 20-point game of her career while setting a new career high with 25 points. Robertson would do most of her damage from the free throw line where she made 15-of-19 free throw attempts while also tallying five steals and four assists in the contest. The senior guard ranks in the program's top-10 in seven different categories while sitting 13th in school history with 1,095 career points.
Tennessee Tech (16-6, 8-3 OVC) is coming off of a loss at Southeast Missouri on Thursday night in which the team shot just 26.9 percent from the field and ultimately fell on the road by a final score of 62-53. The Golden Eagles are paced by Jordan Brock who leads the squad with 13.4 points per game while boasting five players who average over eight points per game.
This marks the 71st meeting between the two programs with Tennessee Tech holding a 46-24 advantage in a series which dates back to 1969. UT Martin has controlled the series as of late, winning 10-of-13 matchups under the direction of head coach Kevin McMillan. The game also serves as the first matchup between the Skyhawks and the Golden Eagles in the Elam Center since Jan. 13, 2016.
The game will be televised live on ESPN+. Fans can also tune into WCMT 1410 AM, 100.5 FM, 92.7 FM, 96.1 FM, 99.7 FM and 103.3 FM to hear Tom Britt (play-by-play) and Chris Brinkley (color) provide analysis.
