
NO. 10 SKYHAWKS SPLIT A PAIR OF EQUESTRIAN DECISIONS IN THE YELLOWHAMMER STATE

AUBURN, Ala. – The No. 10 ranked University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team posted yet another victory this morning with a 10-5 triumph over South Dakota State before falling by a 17-0 margin to No. 1 Auburn at the Auburn University Equestrian Center.

Monika Zoromski (equitation over fences), Lucy Eier (horsemanship) and Maddie Mykolaitis (reining) each earned MOP honors for the Skyhawks against South Dakota State. UT Martin won three out of four points in equitation over fences, equitation on the flat and reining while also adding one victory in horsemanship.

Zoromski's 70 points in equitation over fences was good enough for her second MOP of the season. Kelby Kane and Abbie Hopkins each put together performances of 80 points apiece to earn head-to-head victories for the Skyhawks.

UT Martin was led by Zoromski's 88 points in equitation on the flat. Hopkins (85) and Kane (83) also came away with wins to aid the Skyhawks as part of a 6-2 advantage in the Hunter Seat discipline.

In reining, Mykolaitis paced UT Martin with a team-high 73 points for her first MOP of the year. Hannah McDonald followed closely behind with 72.5 points while Sammi Felts was responsible for 66.5 points as part of winning performances.

Eier chalked up her first MOP of the 2018-19 campaign thanks to a 73-point effort in horsemanship. Bailey Newlin's 67 points led to a draw while Devon Woods (73) and Tess Baumann (72.5) each ran into some tough luck with losses by 0.5 points apiece.

The Skyhawks then competed throughout against undefeated Auburn but the nation's top-ranked squad proved to be too much for UT Martin.

In equitation over fences, Kane led the way with 79 points while Grace Rogers (77), Zoromski (76), Brooke Pfeiffer (68) and Hopkins (67) also represented the Skyhawks in the event.

UT Martin dialed up solid scores around in equitation on the flat as Hopkins and Kane each tallied scores of 84 points. Quinn Reed (82 points), Zoromski (81) and Kenzie Mezrah (77) additionally provided positive scores for the Skyhawks.

McAuley Ross' 72.5 points tied her Auburn competitor in horsemanship as UT Martin had several close calls in the event. Eier posted a 75 and fell by one point while Newlin's 74.5 score was defeated by 1.5 points. Baumann and Ross also performed well with scores of 73.5 and 72.5, respectively.

The Skyhawks accounted for a pair of ties in reining as McDonald (72) and Felts (71.5) equaled their head-to-head matchups. Baumann (71) and Ross (68.5) both came away with good scores but fell by 1.5 points and 0.5 points, respectively.
