MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin, ranked 10th in this week's National Collegiate Equestrian Association poll, looks to continue its momentum this week with three competitions in the span of three days.
The Skyhawks start the week with a visit to Auburn, Ala. on Friday, Feb. 8, where they will clash against the No. 1 ranked Auburn Tigers as well as the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. UT Martin then returns home for an exhibition against Mississippi State at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10.
The Skyhawks have won three of their last four decisions, with their only setback in that span coming by a slim 11-8 margin to current No. 4 South Carolina. UT Martin opened the spring with an 11-9 victory over then-No. 6 Georgia on Jan. 24, securing three MOP's overall while winning seven of the 10 points in the Western discipline.
In equitation on the flat, Kelby Kane leads the Skyhawks with four victories, two MOP's and a 77.0 scoring average. All in all, six different UT Martin riders have collected points while five (Kane, Abbie Hopkins, Monika Zoromski, Randi LaChance, Kenzie Mezrah) have won MOP accolades.
Kane's five wins and 75.5 scoring average also heads the Skyhawks in equitation over fences. Kane, Hopkins and Zoromski have each chalked up MOP honors as five different UT Martin representatives have claimed victories in that event.
Six total Skyhawks have dialed up wins in horsemanship, as Lucy Eier paces the team with four victories. Tess Baumann accounts for a pair of MOP's to go along with a team-high 74.0 scoring average while Devon Woods has also tallied an MOP this season.
UT Martin has found the most success this season in reining, as 17 of the team's 55 wins have occurred in that event. Noel Meadows' six wins paces the squad while Tess Baumann's 69.0 scoring average rank as a team-high. Overall, five different Skyhawks have secured victories while Meadows (two), Baumann (two) and Hannah McDonald (one) have combined for five MOP's.
Live scoring will be available for both Friday competitions, as those links can be found at the top of the webpage.
