The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team returns home for a season-long three-game homestand beginning with an Ohio Valley Conference matchup against Jacksonville State on Thursday, Feb. 7. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (15-6, 7-3 OVC) enter the matchup looking to string together a strong homestand as the OVC schedule officially flips into the home stretch with just eight games remaining in the regular season. With three straight games at home, the Skyhawks will look to lean against the squad's distinct home court advantage in which the team has posted a record of 99-23 in the Elam Center under the direction of head coach Kevin McMillan – including a 70-10 mark against OVC foes during the span.
UT Martin dropped its last contest in a shootout at Belmont, falling 100-86 in a contest which saw 186 combined points scored after facing just a 13-5 margin after the first quarter of play. In the high-scoring affair, both teams combined to score 4.65 points per minute while the Skyhawks still rank ninth in the nation with 81.9 points per game. As a result of the high scoring output, since the start of OVC play the group of Emanye Robertson (13.5 ppg),
Chelsey Perry (12.1 ppg), Maddie Waldrop (11.1 ppg) and Brittni Moore (10.2 ppg) are each averaging in double figures.
The coaching matchup features two of the league's veteran coaches in UT Martin's McMillan and Jacksonville State's Rick Pietri. McMillan ranks third in OVC history with 188 career victories in his 10 seasons while Pietri has posted an 84-84 record in six seasons at the helm of the Gamecocks.
Jacksonville State (10-11, 4-6 OVC) enters the contest looking to gain some momentum after notching just its second win in the last seven games with a victory Austin Peay on Saturday afternoon. The Gamecocks feature just one player in double figures in Destiney Elliott who averages 11.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while Rayven Pearson controls the post with 9.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
Thursday's meeting marks the 36th matchup between the two programs with UT Martin holding a narrow 18-17 advantage in the series. Despite the tight margin, UT Martin has held a strong grasp on the series by winning 10 straight matchups dating back to the 2011-12 season.
The game will be televised live on ESPN+.
