The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team hits the final two weeks of the regular season with Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Championship seeding on the line. The Skyhawks will look to keep building their postseason résumé with a road matchup at rival Murray State on Thursday, Feb. 21. Tipoff from the CFSB Center is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (18-7, 10-4 OVC) enter Thursday's contest in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings along with Tennessee Tech and Morehead State. With a top-seed on the line, UT Martin will look to its recent success in which the squad has posted a 59-13 (81.9 percent) mark in the month of February over the past 10 seasons.
UT Martin swept last week's action, defeating Southeast Missouri (61-50) at home on Thursday before going on the road and posting a 27-point victory at SIUE on Saturday. During the stretch, Skyhawk forward Chelsey Perry averaged 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game. In league play alone, the group of Perry (13.5), Emanye Robertson (13.1), Maddie Waldrop (10.6) and Brittni Moore (10.5) are each averaging in double figures in OVC play.
Murray State (10-15, 6-8 OVC) recently saw its three-game winning streak come to an end against Austin Peay on Saturday, falling 59-56 on the road. Despite the road result, the Racers enter the home stretch in a three-way tie for seventh place in the league standings, looking to secure one of the eight berths into the OVC Basketball Championship next month. The Racers are led by the play of 10-time OVC Newcomer of the Week Evelyn Adebayo who averages 18.4 points and 11.7 rebounds per game while Macey Turley (13.2 ppg) and Janika Griffith-Wallace (10.2 ppg) also average in double figures.
Thursday's game marks the 87th meeting between the two programs dating back to 1970. UT Martin holds a 52-34 advantage in series history while winning five straight against Murray State. When the two teams met earlier this season, UT Martin tallied a 75-67 home victory behind 24 points from Emanye Robertson while the Skyhawks forced the Racers into 22 turnovers.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+. Fans can also tune into WCMT 1410 AM, 100.5 FM, 92.7 FM, 96.1 FM, 99.7 FM and 103.3 FM to hear Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Eddie Suiter (color) provide analysis.
