UT MARTIN RODEO STARTS SPRING CAMPAIGN AT EAST MISSISSIPPI THIS WEEK

MARTIN, Tenn. – Coming off a successful fall season that saw both teams place in the top-15 of the national standings, the University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo program opens the spring season at East Mississippi Community College on Feb. 21-23.
Through a half-dozen rodeos in the fall, the UT Martin men rank seventh nationally with 2,805 points while the women's squad comes in ranked 15th with 1,222.5 points. The men's and women's teams rank second and third, respectively, in the Ozark Region.
The UT Martin men's team placed in the top-three in every rodeo of the 2018 fall semester, including four runner-up finishes. Individually, four UT Martin cowboys rank in the top-15 nationally in their respective events, led by Hunter Green's ninth-place ranking in bareback riding (660 points). Ryan McDaniel's 350 points tops the Ozark Region and ranks 14th nationally in bull riding while Robert Haley (475 points in saddle bronc riding) and Stetson Bierman (580 points in bareback riding) each rank 15th in the nation.
On the women's side, UT Martin finished in the top-three in four rodeos during the fall – including a victory at Pearl River on Sept. 13-15. Ashley Brooks leads the Ozark Region and ranks fifth in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association with 545 points in barrel racing. Raegan Taylor has tallied the third-most points (330) in the Ozark Region in barrel racing while Lauren Heck's 210 points in goat tying rank fourth in the Ozark Region.
This weekend is the first of four regular season rodeos for UT Martin this spring. UT Martin will also take a trip to Arkansas-Monticello on March 28-30 before hosting the 51st annual Spring College Rodeo at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion on April 11-13. UT Martin concludes the regular season at Northwest Mississippi (April 25-27) before traveling to Casper, Wyo. for the 2019 College National Finals Rodeo on June 9-15.
