EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team completed a season sweep of Ohio Valley Conference rival SIUE on Saturday with a dominating road performance, notching a 75-48 victory.
The Skyhawks (18-7, 10-4 OVC) used a big second quarter in which the visitors outscored the home squad 24-8 in the period and never looked back. With the win, the Skyhawks move into a three-way tie for second place in the league standings with four games left to play.
Sophomore Chelsey Perry led a balanced scoring attack which saw only two players score in double figures. Perry tallied 14 points and seven rebounds in the contest while Emanye Robertson also eclipsed double-figures with 10 points and eight assists. As a whole, all 14 players saw action with 11 players reaching the scoring column.
"We had a really good second quarter and I told our kids that we needed to make a statement in the second half and I don't think we did that," UT Martin head coach Kevin McMillan said. "I was hoping that tonight would have been a good test to see how good we want to be, but they were missing two starters and struggled finding a way to score. We had chances to blow it open but missed easy shots while on the defense we started giving up easy layups. What did we learn today? I don't know what we are going forward, but we had a chance for a lot of kids to play some and that was nice."
SIUE (11-14, 6-8 OVC) was led in scoring by sophomore Allie Troeckler with 10 points and seven rebounds while senior Sydney Bauman tallied eight points 10 rebounds and four blocks.
UT Martin will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 21 with a road matchup at Murray State. Tipoff from the CFSB Center is scheduled for 5 p.m.
