
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS OPENS THREE GAME HOMESTAND AGAINST CHATTANOOGA

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will open a three-game homestand with a matchup against in-state rival Chattanooga on Sunday, Dec. 8. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (2-5) are looking to get back to its winning ways after dropping back-to-back road contest at Missouri Valley Conference foes Illinois State and Southern Illinois. UT Martin will look to lean upon the team's home court advantage after posting a 104-24 record in the Elam Center since 2009. This season, the Skyhawks are averaging 68.5 point per game at home – over 12 points higher than the team's season average.
In the team's most recent outing, UT Martin surged back with its highest scoring third quarter of the season to tie the game heading into the fourth quarter before watching its comeback attempt come up short at Southern Illinois by a score of 70-59. Highlighting the game was the play of junior forward Maddie Waldrop who tallied 16 points, 14 rebounds and five assists after returning from an injury which held her out for two games.
Reigning OVC Player of the Week Chelsey Perry leads the Skyhawks by averaging 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game. Perry has averaged 23.3 points per game in the last three contests. Sophomore forward Damiah Griffin ranks as the team's other top scorer, averaging 10.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
Chattanooga (1-8) enters the contest riding a six-game losing streak – including losses to OVC foes Austin Peay (50-49) and Eastern Kentucky (71-65). The Mocs are led by Lakleyn Bouldin with 12.2 points and 4.1 rebounds while Eboni Williams also scores in double figures with 10.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Sunday's contest marks the 16th meeting between the two programs in a series which dates back to 1972. Chattanooga leads the all-time series 12-3 while UT Martin is looking for its first victory at home against the Mocs. Last year, the Skyhawks picked up an 81-79 road victory on Nov. 28 off a jumper by Emanye Robertson.
