MARTIN, Tenn. – The 69th season of University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball officially tips off when the Skyhawks play host to NAIA opponent St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. live on ESPN+.
UT Martin is 32-36 all-time in season-openers but are 6-0 in such games played at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center since joining the Division I ranks in 1992. The Skyhawks also own a perfect 56-0 record against non-Division I opposition during that same span.
This marks the first official meeting between UT Martin and St. Louis College of Pharmacy, although the Skyhawks did host the Eutectics for an exhibition last season. Quintin Dove tallied 17 points and 17 rebounds while Derek Hawthorne, Jr. chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds to pace UT Martin to a 113-47 win.
Skyhawk head coach Anthony Stewart returns five players and three starters from last season's squad who caught fire down the stretch and won an Ohio Valley Conference tournament game. Dove and Craig Randall II were each spotlighted as Preseason All-OVC honorees while Hawthorne, Jr. and Pittsburgh transfer Parker Stewart also lead a loaded UT Martin backcourt.
The Skyhawks had one exhibition tuneup, turning away Earlham College by a 76-50 margin last Thursday. Randall (19 points), Stewart (14) and newcomer Steve Wooten, Jr. (12) each scored in double-figures for UT Martin.
St. Louis College of Pharmacy opened its season last Saturday, falling by a score of 82-56 to Kansas Wesleyan at home. Jordan Anderson collected game-highs of 17 points and seven rebounds for the Eutectics, who committed 18 turnovers and shot 29.8 percent (17-of-57) from the floor. Terry Deboise contributed 10 points off the bench for a young St. Louis College of Pharmacy squad that consists of 10 underclassmen out of 13 eligible players.
Fans can watch the game live on ESPN+ while the game will also be broadcasted on the local radio airwaves on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links - as well as a link for live stats - can be found at the top of the webpage.
