
UT MARTIN RIFLE CONCLUDES FALL CAMPAIGN AT OVC RIVAL MURRAY STATE

MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team collected its second-highest score of the season over the weekend but the Skyhawks were edged out by Murray State by a 4,646-4,609 margin.
The match was tight following smallbore as the Racers held a slim 2,292-2,289 advantage. In air rifle, the Skyhawks compiled a respectable 2,320 but were outscored by Murray State's tally of 2,354 points.
Kaitlin Korinek once again led the way for UT Martin, establishing new season-highs in aggregate scoring (1,170) and smallbore points (579). She finished second out of all shooters in each of those two categories as well as in air rifle (591).
Following Korinek in smallbore scoring was Jennifer Plocinik (575) and Rachel Sprague (573). The duo of Nick Fares (562) and Jacob Osborne (561) completed the team scoring for the Skyhawks.
In air rifle, Sprague's 582 was the second-best UT Martin score behind Korinek. Plocinik wasn't too far behind with her 580 points while Osborne and Fares followed with countable scores of 567 and 556, respectively.
Also representing the Skyhawks in smallbore was Kalen Royal (549), Celia Gelpey (546), Tristan Grisham (541) and Rachel Mills (season-best 533). Those same four also competed in air rifle as Gelpey's 563 led the pack. Royal (553), Mills (552) and Grisham (531) rounded out the match for UT Martin.
"The team has continued to steadily gain ground all fall with no setbacks," Skyhawk head coach MJ Vowell said. "I'm looking forward to the spring season and OVC Championship in February. This team has the potential to make a very strong showing."
UT Martin opens the spring portion of its schedule on Jan. 11, hosting Murray State at the Skyhawk Rifle Range.
