
SKYHAWK RIFLE EDGES OUT MOREHEAD STATE TO EARN FIRST VICTORY OF THE SEASON

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle squad earned its first win of the 2019-20 campaign over the weekend as it defeated Ohio Valley Conference rival Morehead State at the Skyhawk Rifle Range.
The match was historical as it marked the first time that electronic targets were used at the Skyhawk Rifle Range. An exciting finish was in store as the team scores were knotted at 2,266 through Saturday's smallbore competition. UT Martin closed out the match strong with 2,333 air rifle points – eclipsing Morehead State's 2,330 score. Overall, the Skyhawks claimed the win by an aggregate score of 4,599-4,596.
Leading the way for UT Martin was Kaitlin Korinek, who was responsible for the highest combined score of 1,162 points. That included 590 points in air rifle – which was the best score of any competitor.
Jennifer Plocinik paced the Skyhawks in smallbore for the third consecutive match, dialing up 573 points. Saturday's smallbore scoring lineup was completed by Korinek (572), Jacob Osborne (561), Rachel Sprague (560) and Celia Gelpey (529).
In air rifle, Korinek's 590 was followed in Sunday's scoring lineup by Plocinik (585), Osborne (career-high 582), Sprague (576) and Abigail Donald (566).
Additionally recording benchmark scores for UT Martin this weekend was Kalen Royal (career-best 557 in smallbore, season-high 561 in air rifle), Rachel Mills (season-best 531 in smallbore) and Nick Fares (career-high 575 in air rifle). Tristan Grisham also formulated consistent scores for UT Martin (539 smallbore, 538 air rifle).
The Skyhawks put the finishing touches on their fall calendar when they make the short trek to Murray State on Nov. 23.
