
TJ JEFFERSON NAMED OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin senior linebacker TJ Jefferson was named Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week after a standout performance against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.
A native of Nashville, Tenn., Jefferson posted several key contributions en route to his first career OVC weekly honor. Jefferson tallied five tackles in the contest while recording two quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery. His fumble recovery came late in the third quarter when he picked up a strip-sack fumble and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown to give the Skyhawks a two-score advantage.
So far this season, Jefferson ranks second on the team with 38 total tackles while recording 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He has tallied four quarterback hurries along with a pair of pass breakups while notching both a forced fumble and recovery.
Jefferson and the Skyhawks will return to action by opening play for the Sgt. York Trophy series with a matchup at in-state foe Tennessee Tech on Saturday, Oct. 12.
