
UT MARTIN TO COMPETE AT OVC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP THIS WEEKEND

MARTIN, Tenn. – The 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championship will be run on Saturday at the SIUE Cross Country Course in Edwardsville, Illinois. The men's 8K race will begin at 9:00 a.m. CT with the women's 5K following at 10 a.m.
It marks the first time SIUE has hosted the event. The meet is free and open to the public.
On race day SIUE Police will shut down University Drive from Poag Road (St. Louis Street) to Governors Parkway (Cougar Lake Road). Spectators are asked to park in University Lots P-8 and P-9 and take the free shuttle to the course. The shuttles will begin at 7 a.m. and run continuously until 12:30 p.m. Please see the parking procedures link at the top of the page for a parking map.
The OVC Athletes and Freshmen of the Year, which are determined by coaches vote, will be announced on Friday night at an awards banquet while the Coach of the Year, Athletes of the Championship and All-OVC honors will be presented following Saturday's Championship.
This will be the 59th OVC men's championship, as the first one was held in 1962. UT Martin, under the direction of first-year head coach Kevin Mangan, has finished in the top half at the OVC Championship in each of the past three seasons. Junior Alex Schell has been the team's most consistent finisher this year including finishing 16th in a large field at the Bradley Pink Classic on October 18. Junior Tim Dye finished second earlier this season at the SIUE John Flamer Invitational.
The women's championship will be determined for the 41st time this year. Junior Alexis Grandys has had a breakout season for UT Martin, earning three OVC Runner of the Week awards this year, running the fastest 6K time and the second-fastest 5K time (17:22.9) in the OVC this season. She won the SIUE John Flamer Invitational in September, was 28th out of 270 runners at the Chile Pepper Festival hosted by Arkansas on October 5 and two weeks ago placed seventh at the Bradley Pink Classic. As a team UTM has finished fifth or sixth in each of the past three OVC Championships.
