KILLEN, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin shot the best final round score of the TVA Community Credit Union Invitational, earning its fourth consecutive team victory with a five-stroke win to round out the 2019 fall schedule.
The Skyhawks carded an even-par 288 today to finish the 36-hole event with a score of 575 (-1), defeating a nine-team field that included Division I schools North Alabama, New Orleans, Samford, Murray State, Southeastern Louisiana and Chicago State. UT Martin led the tournament in birdies (35) and par-4 scoring (4.06, +6).
"I couldn't be any prouder of the effort today from our guys," Skyhawk assistant coach Austin Swafford said. "They hung tough after a slow start and made birdies down the stretch when we had to have them. Again, it was a full team effort this week and they earned every bit of this one."
Leading UT Martin was Nick Wolf, who made the all-tournament team after tying for second place out of 71 golfers with a final score of 141 (-3). The junior from Murfreesboro, Tenn. equaled a season-low score of 70 this morning, accounting for four birdies and 12 pars to tie for the best finish of his collegiate career – placing only behind medalist Alfie Fox of UAB (138, -6).
"Congratulations to Nick for making the all-tournament team," Swafford said. "He's been close all semester so it's great to see him finish the fall in this manner."
Tate Chumley generated the first top-10 finish of his junior season today, as he finished in ninth place with an overall score of 145 (+1). He birdied back-to-back holes to start his back-nine on the way to a 74 this morning.
Separated by one stroke in the final tally was Skyhawk teammates Jack Story (147, +3) and Mason Chandler (148, +4). Story's 79 today included a pair of birdies while four of Chandler's team-high five birdies came on the back-nine as he claimed a 71 this morning.
Showing a six-shot improvement from Round 1 was Ross Redmont, who chalked up four birdies on his way to a 73 today. He finished with a total score of 152 (+8).
Jacob Uehlein also saw an improved score from yesterday, shaving off two strokes for a 73 this morning. The freshman, who was playing as an individual, completed his tournament with a final tally of 148 (+4).
UT Martin will take the next four months off before ramping up its spring schedule, starting with a Feb. 22-24 visit to Goodyear, Ariz. for the Loyola Intercollegiate.
