GOODYEAR, Ariz. – For the second consecutive day, the University of Tennessee at Martin golf team posted a red score at the Loyola Intercollegiate to close out its first tournament of the spring.
The Skyhawks shot the same exact score today as they did in Round 2 – a 285 (-3). That resulted in an 866 (+2) as UT Martin's final tournament score, ranking 11th out of 19 teams in the loaded field.
"We had some grit in us today, which was great to see," Skyhawk assistant coach Austin Swafford said. "The score was the same as Round 2 but it felt totally different. Again, we have a few things to clean up but overall I'm pleased with how we played this week."
A trio of UT Martin golfers shot 71's today as Jack Story, Nick Wolf and Mason Chandler each led the squad. Story accounted for all five of his birdies in a 10-hole span midway through his round while Wolf collected three birdies, 13 pars and two bogeys. Chandler improved his score by six shots from yesterday, notching all five of his birdies through his first seven holes.
Ross Redmont's even-par 72 wrapped up the Skyhawks' team scoring as the redshirt senior carded a pair of birdies on his back-nine to erase two bogeys on the front side.
Tate Chumley generated a 73 (+1) that included two birdies this morning while Jacob Uehlein enjoyed a spectacular round (71, tied for team-high with five birdies) as an individual.
Overall, Story ranked as UT Martin's top finisher as his 215 (-1) ranked 17th out of 112 participants in the event. One stroke separated Redmont (217, +1), Chumley (218, +2) and Wolf (218, +2) while Uehlein (222, +6) and Chandler (227, +11) rounded out the Skyhawks' tournament scoring.
Story placed fifth in the tournament in both par-5 scoring average (4.42, -7) and birdies (14) while Redmont's 3.00 par-3 scoring average (E) and 38 pars ranked fifth and sixth, respectively, in the field.
Drake won the team championship with an 849 (-15) while Delaware's Roberto Nieves claimed individual medalist honors after a 205 (-11). Both titles were decided by one shot apiece.
UT Martin gets right back at it next week when the Skyhawks travel to Diamondhead, Miss. for the Gulf Coast Collegiate hosted by the University of New Orleans on March 2-3.
