UT MARTIN VOLLEYBALL STARTS MONTH OF OCTOBER AGAINST SOUTHEAST MISSOURI, JACKSONVILLE STATE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team faces a split Ohio Valley Conference week with a Tuesday, Oct. 2 road matchup at Southeast Missouri before returning home to take on Jacksonville State at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5.

The Skyhawks enter the week with an 8-9 overall record and a 2-2 mark in conference play. UT Martin is coming off a weekend where it split a pair of four-set road decisions, falling at SIUE on Friday before bouncing back to defeat Eastern Illinois on Saturday. Senior libero Brooke Gyori enjoyed a remarkable weekend with 7.38 digs per set, including a career-best 32 scoops against SIUE. Jamie Rys keyed the Skyhawk offense with 3.75 kills per set, establishing a career-high in that category in both matches (13 against SIUE, 17 against Eastern Illinois). Kenzie Hinshaw (11.0 assists, 3.75 digs per set) also was a top-notch performer for UT Martin over the weekend.

Overall, Gyori ranks second in the OVC with 4.97 digs per set while Hinshaw (fifth with 0.35 service aces per set, eighth with 8.59 assists per set) and Gintare Mackeviciute (ninth with a .268 attack percentage) also rank amongst the league's top players. In OVC play, Justine Walker leads the conference with 1.18 blocks per set while Karen Scanlon ranks second with a .382 attack percentage.

Southeast Missouri (10-7, 2-2 OVC) began the season with five consecutive 3-0 victories. The Redhawks have identical head-to-head records against league foes as UT Martin. During last weekend's road matches against Eastern Illinois (won 3-2) and SIUE (lost 3-1), Southeast Missouri was paced by Laney Malloy's 3.56 kills per set while Claire Ochs (10.67 assists per set) and Ally Dion (4.33 digs per set) also guided the Redhawks.

Jacksonville State comes into the week with an 8-9 record and a 1-3 conference mark, as the Gamecocks snapped a five-game skid with a 3-1 win over Belmont on Saturday. Lena Kindermann (3.50 kills per set) and Lexie Libs (11.13 assists per set) were top offensive contributors for Jacksonville State last weekend. On the season, the Gamecocks boast three of the OVC's top-10 in hitting percentage (Kaylee Frear at .306; Kindermann at .297; Mackenzie Rombach at .266).
