MARTIN, Tenn. – A three-match Ohio Valley Conference road swing starts this weekend for the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball squad, as the Skyhawks pay a visit to SIUE on Friday, Sept. 28 and Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Sept. 29.
          Â
UT Martin (7-8, 1-1 OVC) opened league play last weekend with a home split against Murray State (won 3-2) and defending league champion Austin Peay (lost 3-1). Kenzie Hinshaw helped the Skyhawks hit .206 as a team last week after averaging 9.89 assists per set while freshman Karen Scanlon hit an even .500 with 21 kills in 36 swings. Megan Fair led UT Martin with 24 kills (2.67 per set) to go along with 29 digs (3.22 per set) while Brooke Gyori (team-high 31 digs, 3.44 per set) and Justine Walker (12 blocks, 1.33 per set) headed the Skyhawk defense last week.
          Â
Gyori's 4.66 digs per set average ranks second in the OVC while Hinshaw's 0.34 service aces per set (third) and 8.26 assists per set (eighth) also rank in the league's top-10. Despite missing the last six matches because of injury, junior middle blocker Gintare Mackeviciute ranks seventh in the OVC with a .281 attack percentage.
          Â
SIUE began the season with 11 consecutive losses before winning two of its last three decisions – including a 3-0 sweep at Belmont last Saturday. Last week, freshman Ellen LeMasters led the Cougar offense with 18 kills (3.0 per set) on a .378 hitting percentage while Mallory Nicholson (7.27 assists, 3.67 digs per set) directed an offense that hit .215. Rachel McDonald paces SIUE in both kills (115, 2.40 per set) and digs (147, 3.06 per set) in 2018.
          Â
Eastern Illinois (6-11, 1-1 OVC) has won three of its last four matches, including a three-set triumph over SIUE last Wednesday. The Panthers entered the week atop the OVC with 16.83 digs per set, thanks in large part to Anne Hughes' league-leading 5.47 digs per set average. That marks the 13th-best digs per set ratio in the NCAA Division I ranks. Laurel Bailey ranks sixth in the OVC in points per set (3.67) while also chipping in 3.16 digs per set for Eastern Illinois.
