MARTIN, Tenn. – One of the Ohio Valley Conference's premier programs, the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team returned to the hardwood of the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center with the opening of official practice on Tuesday afternoon.
With the start of the regular season just 41 days away, the Skyhawks hit the practice court in an effort to blend a squad which features a mix of five returners, three players which redshirted a season ago along with eight newcomers to a program which notched its seventh postseason berth in the past eight seasons a year ago.
The Skyhawks feature a roster which includes a pair of starters in senior guard Emanye Robertson and sophomore forward Chelsey Perry. Robertson played in all 34 games last season, averaging 10.9 points, 4.4 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game. She ranked in the OVC top-10 in steals (2.1, fourth), minutes played (34.7, fifth), assists (4.4, sixth), assist/turnover ratio (1.4, sixth) and field goal percentage (45.7, eighth). Meanwhile, Perry posted a strong freshman campaign earning OVC All-Newcomer honors after averaging 11.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 1.2 assists and 1.1 blocks per game.
UT Martin also welcomes the return of sophomores Demi Burdick, Zaire Hicks and Maddie Waldrop while the trio of Damiah Griffin, Paige Pipkin and Tamiah Stanford will look to make their Skyhawk debuts after missing 2017-18 with injuries. Additionally, the squad's eight newcomers Aundrea Adams, Emma Davis, Kyannah Grant, Kyarrah Grant, Sade' Hudson, Jalynn Landversicht, Brittni Moore and Anna Pierce (must sit down due to Division I transfer rules) will also suit up in the orange and blue this season.
Fans will get their first look at the Skyhawks with the season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 6 against Samford.
