MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team recorded its highest aggregate score of the season as the Skyhawks tallied a score of 4,586 against Murray State this weekend.
Freshman Rachel Sprague led the squad overall as her 1,166 aggregate score was the second-highest of all competitors while also pacing the Skyhawks in smallbore. She also set a pair of collegiate-bests in both smallbore as well as air rifle. The duo of Abigail Donald and Celia Gelpey recorded personal-highs in smallbore while Rachel Mills fired a personal-best in air rifle.
Blazing the way for the smallbore team was Sprague (578) and Gelpey (576) while Kaitlin Korinek (570) and Andre Delcalzo (553) rounded out the squad score of 2,277. Donald (560), Jacob Osborne (550), Mills (539), Tristan Grisham (539) and Kalen Royal (512) also fired in the discipline.
The squad of Korinek (590), Sprague (588), Gelpey (568) and Osborne (563) combined to tally the team score of 2,309 in air rifle. Also shooting was Donald (565), Mills (559), Royal (558) and Delcalzo (530).
"We had a good day at Murray as we fired our highest aggregate of the season," head coach MJ Vowell said. "There were several individuals who set personal-bests in both disciplines – I am extremely proud of them. We hadn't had a match in several weeks but we took that time to focus on areas that we needed to address which was smallbore – and that extra time of practice showed this weekend. We look to keep up the momentum going into Jacksonville State in a couple of weeks and have our sights set to break the 4,600 aggregate mark."
UT Martin will head to Jacksonville State on Saturday, Nov. 17 to close out its fall slate of competition.
