CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin senior guard Emanye Robertson came through in the clutch, scoring the final four points of the game – including a jumper with 0.2 seconds on the clock to clinch a comeback road victory at Chattanooga 81-79 on Wednesday night.
The Skyhawks (5-2) picked up their first road victory of the season and first at Chattanooga in program history with the comeback win. UT Martin would trail for much of the contest as the Mocs held the lead for over 33 minutes of the contest while the margin hovered around seven points for long stretches. The Skyhawks would finally take the lead midway through the fourth quarter, setting up Robertson for the late game heroics to tie the game with five seconds to play before a jumper with 0.2 seconds remaining proved to be the game-winner.
UT Martin forced Chattanooga into 23 turnovers on the night which led to 31 points and 46 points in the paint. Fouls nearly proved costly for the Skyhawks as the squad was called for 30 fouls on the night while three different players were fouled out in the fourth quarter stretch run.
Damiah Griffin led all scorers with 17 points before fouling out early in the fourth quarter. Aundrea Adams (11 points) and Chelsey Perry (seven points, six rebounds) also fouled out in the contest leaving the Skyhawks with just one post player late. Despite the trouble, 10 different players scored in double figures for the Skyhawks.
"I thought our kids really competed," UT Martin head coach Kevin McMillan said. "There were a couple stretches where we could have hung our heads but they didn't. It was nice to see our senior come up with two big plays to win the game. We are going to play to our depth, press and try to make the other team tired. I think you saw that a little bit down the stretch but give our kids credit, they gutted it out with three of the top scorers out to find a way to win. That's a huge win. People don't win here very often."
Chattanooga (4-4) saw four different players score in double figures. Morgan Hill led the way with 15 points for the Mocs while Lakelyn Bouldin (14 points), Brooke Burns (11 points) and Arianne Whitaker (10 points) also eclipsed double figures.
UT Martin will return to action when playing perennial national championship contender Louisville on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
