
UT MARTIN EQUESTRIAN HOSTS NO. 5 SOUTH CAROLINA IN FINAL HOME COMPETITION OF THE FALL

MARTIN, Tenn. – Fresh off its first two victories of the season, the University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian squad completes its season-long homestand with a matchup against No. 5 South Carolina on Friday, Nov. 2. The competition is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
The Skyhawks will look to duplicate its past success from their current homestand, as they have outscored the opposition by a 15-8 margin in victories over South Dakota State and Sweet Briar College. UT Martin claimed over half (six) of its 11 MOP's so far this season during those two competitions, as Monika Zoromski (both equitation on the flat and equitation over fences), Kelby Kane (equitation on the flat), Abbie Hopkins (equitation over fences), Devon Woods (horsemanship) and Tess Baumann (reining) each earned top honors in their events.
On the season, the Skyhawks boast a balanced attack as the Hunter Seat performers have notched 19 wins and the Western riders have accrued 17 victories. Eight different UT Martin have combined for the team's 11 MOP's while 13 different Skyhawks have posted a victory in 2018-19.
UT Martin has dialed up 10 points in equitation over fences, led by three wins apiece by Kane and Zoromski. Kane boasts a team-high 74.3 scoring average in the event as a freshman. In equitation on the flat, Zoromski is tied with Hopkins for the team lead with three victories each. Zoromski has registered a team-best 76.8 scoring average while taking part in all six competitions as the Skyhawks have totaled nine wins in the event.
Noel Meadows has chalked up a team-high five victories in reining while Hannah McDonald accounts for a 68.0 scoring average. This season, UT Martin has emerged on the winning side 11 times in the event. Horsemanship has been guided by Lucy Eier's three victories while Woods carries a team-high 72.0 scoring average as the Skyhawks have collected six total wins in the event.
South Carolina enters Friday with a 2-3 overall record, although three of its four competitions have been decided by a single point. Included on the Gamecock resume is an impressive 10-9 victory over then-No. 2 Georgia on Oct. 5. South Carolina is paced by Caroline Gute and Bridgett White, who have each earned All-American accolades in reining under 21st-year head coach Boo Major.
