Thomas Fanic is in his first season on the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball staff in 2025. He will serve as the program's director of operations.
Fanic comes to the Skyhawks after an accomplished playing career at the NCAA Division II and NAIA levels, earning all-conference honors on three separate occasions. The middle blocker racked up 515 kills, a .293 attack percentage, 295 blocks and 179 digs over five seasons, accumulating 728 points in 368 sets played.
A Narbonne, France native, Fanic began his collegiate career under head coach Omar Sanchez at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. He earned Heart of America Athletic Conference honorable mention accolades in his only season (2021) as a Viking, compiling 117 kills (on a whopping .361 hitting percentage) and a team-best 57 blocks. He helped the squad to an 18-6 overall record and 15-4 mark in conference play, ranking No. 7 nationally and advancing to the NAIA national championship tournament for the first time since 2016.
Fanic spent three seasons (2022-24) at Barton College in Wilson, NC, playing under head coaches Jeff Lennox and JT Deppe. Fanic was third-team All-Conference Carolinas selection during both of his final two seasons, topping the team with 87 blocks while ranking second in the league with 1.14 blocks per set in 2024 while tacking on a team-high 86 blocks in 2023. He collected 284 combined kills over his first two seasons with the Bulldogs and left the program with 209 blocks, which ranked third all-time in school history.
Fanic played his final collegiate season for head coach Todd Hollenbeck at Menlo College in Atherton, Calif. Fanic was part of the program's inaugural year at the NCAA Division II level as the Oaks went 13-13 overall with a 7-5 mark in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
In Fanic's youth career, he was a U18 national champion. He played his high school career at Lycée Jean Mermoz in Montpellier, France.
Academically, Fanic won a NCAA Division II Athletic Director's Association Academic Achievement Award in 2025. He graduated from Barton College with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 2024 and is currently pursuing his Master's degree.
