Kenny Dupont enters his second season as an assistant coach at UT Martin after decades of work with the Holmes Community College baseball program.
In 2026, UT Martin snapped multiple school records in a historic season. The Skyhawks finished with the most wins in a single season in their NCAA Division I history (26) while also setting the UT Martin DI era record for most home wins (18). Additionally, new school records were posted in runs scored (429), hits (609), doubles (136), RBI’s (387), stolen bases (145), runs per game in DI era (7.8) and most stolen bases in a game in school history (eight, May 3 at Western Illinois). The Skyhawks ranked fifth in the country in batting average, ninth in doubles, 15th in hits, 11th in stolen bases while leading the OVC in RBI’s (387). UT Martin posted 13 games with double-digit runs scored. Two Skyhawks collected postseason accolades with TJ Grines (OVC Player of the Year, All-OVC first team) and TJ Dunsford (All-OVC second team) earning recognition for tremendous seasons. Grines became UT Martin’s first ever conference player of the year in school history with a historic campaign. The Alexandria, La. native was just the third player since 2002 to join the 50 RBI/50 stolen base club and led the country in stolen bases with 66 (most in NCAA DI baseball since 2007). He became the first Skyhawk to have 20+ doubles and 10+ home runs since 2011 MLB draft pick Trey Karlen accomplished that feat in 2010. Dunsford was named the ninth outfielder in UT Martin history to the All-OVC second team. He notched 62 RBI’s which was just two shy of tying the program’s single season record. The Grand Bay, Ala. native owned a .985 OPS, 11 home runs (team high), 22 multi-hit games (second on the team) and 17 multi-RBI contests (tied for the team lead).
In 2025, UT Martin set a new school record for stolen bases with 118 which ranked 39th in the NCAA Division I ranks. Jalen Fithian became the school’s division one single season steal king with 37 stolen bases.
On the Diamond Dogs coaching staff, Dupont was in charge of pitchers, hitting and recruiting. In his first season, he helped lead the Dogs to their first playoff trip to the NJCAA Region 23 Championship Tournament. In his first four seasons as an assistant coach, the Dogs had a winning campaign and punched their ticket twice to the NJCAA Region 23 Championship Tournament. A total of 20 players went on to play for universities and two were in the Major League Baseball Draft under his mentorship.
As a head coach, the Dogs recorded 17 straight winning seasons and had seven trips to the NJCAA Region 23 Championship Tournament, and seven visits to the MACJC State Championship Tournament. Following the conclusion of the 2001 season, Holmes CC was ranked 20th in the NJCAA national baseball poll boasting a 34-11 record. The next season, the Dogs went 34-15 and were ranked 18th in the final polls of the season. Under Dupont, 133 players went on to play at universities and 27 were drafted or signed to play professional baseball.
In 1996-97, he coached former three-time MLB all-star and 2000 gold medalist Roy Oswalt who’s a member of the Houston Astros Hall of Fame after finishing his career as the 2005 NLCS MVP, NL wins leader in 2004 and NL ERA leader in 2006. Oswalt played 13 years in the major leagues with the Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers and Colorado Rockies.
Before joining Holmes CC, he was an assistant coach at George C. Wallace Junior College in Dothan, Ala. under Sammy Frichter. After that, he was an assistant under Mike Knight at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, La.
Dupont served as a scout for the Baltimore Orioles from 1992-2010 and also conducted tryout camps.
He holds 557 career wins since 2000 with a career record of 557-268. In total, he led the Bulldogs to nine appearances in the MACJC State Tournament and eight appearances in the Region XXIII Tournament.
Dupont is originally from St. Bernard, La. and graduated from Troy State University in 1988. He and his wife Christa have four children, Brister, Dixon, Tyler and Trent.
