Caleb Brewer is in his third season on the University of Tennessee at Martin baseball staff in 2021. He served as a student assistant during the 2019 campaign and moved to the volunteer assistant role last season.
Although the Skyhawks' 2020 campaign was shortened, Brewer was part of a historical season. UT Martin defeated No. 30 South Alabama on Feb. 21 for its second victory over a nationally ranked opponent in his three-year coaching tenure. The Skyhawks additionally boasted the program's first ever NCBWA Preseason All-American in Nick Wohlbold while landing multiple Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American honorees (Christian Hall, Wil LaFollette) for the first time in school history.
Brewer previously played for the Skyhawks, logging time as a catcher for the squad for two seasons. During his senior season, he suffered a season-ending injury that moved him to the coaching side of the game as he served as the team’s first base coach for most of the 2018 campaign.
Last year, Brewer was part of a UT Martin squad that recorded arguably the best season in its Division I history. The Skyhawks tied for their most victories since 1993 and won its first round matchup in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship tournament - which was just the second postseason win for UT Martin in its Division I Era (since 1993).
Brewer previously played at nearby Bethel University under head coach Rusty Thompson. He prepped at Lewis County High School, where he was coached by Tim Tiller. He helped the Panthers to a Region 6-AA semifinal appearance during his senior season while also guiding them to a 24-9 record. Â
A native of Hohenwald, Tenn., Brewer graduated from UT Martin in 2019 with a degree in education.
