Wilson Ranks Seventh After Day 1 Of Racer Intercollegiate

PADUCAH, Ky. – A pair of red scores out of sophomore John-Gregory Wilson paced the University of Tennessee at Martin golf squad today on Day 1 of the Racer Intercollegiate held at the Country Club of Paducah.
Wilson shot a 71 (-1) in the first round and followed that with a 70 (-2) this afternoon, leading to a 141 (-3) through 36 holes. That ranks seventh in the field of 92 golfers as the lefty out of Bolivar, Tenn. leads the Skyhawks in par-3 scoring (3.13, +1), par-4 scoring (3.90, -2, sixth-best mark in the field), par-5 scoring (4.75, -2) and pars (25).
UT Martin was one of four squads in the 15-team field to shoot under par in Round 2, wrapping up its day with a 286 (-2). That came after a 296 (+8) during the morning session to bring the Skyhawks' overall tally to 582 (+6). UT Martin carded the fourth-most birdies (29) on Day 1 of the event, ranking seventh in the field – just three strokes out of fifth place heading into Round 3.
The first round of the day included Wilson's 71 with four birdies. Luke Caldwell generated a team-best five birdies on the way to an even-par 72 while Drew Williams (76) and Grant Phillips (77) each sank a pair of birdies as part of the Skyhawks' final two countable scores.

Phillips (148, +4) and Williams (149, +5) are separated by one stroke through two rounds. Jaden Morrell was UT Martin's fifth member of the scoring lineup as he shot a 159 (+15) after rounds of 79 and 80 with one birdie in each session.
A pair of Skyhawk individuals are additionally taking part in the tournament, led by freshman Bryce Harmon (145, +1).
