MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin head men's basketball coach Jeremy Shulman has announced his first signing for next season as in-state star Reid Conley will suit up for the Skyhawks in 2026-27.
Conley is a 6-3, 185-pound guard from Chattanooga, Tenn. He will be a freshman next season after leading Chattanooga Preparatory School to the TSSAA Division I AA state championship last season.
"Reid is such an exciting pickup for us," Shulman said. "He's an athletic, dynamic point guard that can also play off the ball. He can really shoot and pass and gives us one of the top players in Tennessee after winning a state championship this year."
Named a 2A all-state honoree and TSSAA DI-AA District 4 Player of the Year last season, Conley capped off a high school career where he scored over 2,000 career points. He was crowned as the District 4-2A and Region 2-2A Tournament Most Valuable Player en route to a spot on the Chattanooga Times Free Press "Best of Preps" list.
Conley averaged 19.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 2025-26 under head coach Christian Collins, helping the Sentinels to a 22-12 record. He shot 54 percent from the floor as a senior, including a 45 percent clip (71-of-158) from three-point land while shooting 81 percent (92-for-114) from the free throw line as Chattanooga Prep became the only Hamilton County program to win three straight state championships and just the ninth TSSAA boy's basketball program to three-peat since 1921.
Conley recorded a team-best 18 points and five blocks in the state title win against Westview. His season-high scoring tally was 33 points (on 12-of-19 shooting) against Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences on Feb. 5. He also scored 30 points against Unicoi County in the TSSAA Class 2A Sectional to go along with 29 points (with eight assists) against Alcoa on Dec. 31 and 25 points in the Region 2-AA championship game against Tellico Plains.
Playing the 2024-25 campaign at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy under head coach Ben Cribbs, Conley averaged 14.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. He shot 39 percent (58-for-150) from three-point range while helping the Hawks qualify for the Big Shots Prep Nationals event held in Rock Hill, SC. He scored 33 points with seven triples against Moravian Prep. Prior to that, he was a 2024 Division II AA Mr. Basketball nominee at Chattanooga Christian School.
Conley is set to join a UT Martin squad that tied a school record with 22 victories last season, ranking in the top-10 in the nation in four statistical categories. The Skyhawks went 13-7 in Ohio Valley Conference play and advanced to the league semifinals for the third time in the last four seasons.
