Ohio Valley Conference Tabs Andrew Lawrence As Player of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.- Just a week after making his season debut, University of Tennessee at Martin baseball standout Andrew Lawrence was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week.

A native of Huntsville, Ala., the first year Skyhawk produced a slash line of .563/.563/1.125 for an OPS of 1.688. He registered eight RBIs while smacking three doubles and two home runs as UT Martin went a perfect 4-0 at home this week.

In the first contest of the week against Southern Illinois, Lawrence notched his first extra base hit of the season with an RBI double in the first inning which helped the Skyhawks sweep Southern Illinois for the first time since 2015.

The redshirt sophomore batted a blistering .615 and had three-multi hit games in UT Martin's sweep over OVC foe Lindenwood. He drove in seven runs over the weekend while hitting two home runs and rapping two doubles.

The shortstop has RBIs in six of his eight starts and is currently riding a four-game hitting streak.

He becomes the 20th student-athlete in program history to be named conference player of the week and the second this season joining teammate Garner Anderson who won the award back on Feb. 23. The Skyhawks now own three OVC weekly awards this year with Lawrence, Anderson and Jacob Sitton (Pitcher of the Week on March 2) taking home the honors.

UT Martin ends a five-game homestand on Tuesday, March 31 at 3 p.m. against Alabama A&M.
